The last time I seen the airstrip it was completely overgrown with tussock.
Plenty deer there. Blue duck has always been the go. Good viewing on the way there but best as you arrive from on the terrace. People who cheat with thermals see them just before the sun rises which would gone one a major advantage. I saw animals at the clearing at top of airstrip but it's not great due to pressure.
Shot a few last time. I clouding a yearling 150 from the hut that the dog winded. Easy block Imo.
Just mremebr as you crest the terrace b4 blue Duck animals on other terraces can see you as well as down below. Very easy to ruin the morning with a few squeals. Get there early.![]()
Thanks Guys...The airstrip is quite tussocky but I would bet Charlie Janes would it down on there...lol...on our last trip last year about the same time one grandson had one down up behind the hut on the ridge about an hour and a half out of the chopper....
DG....i UNDERSTAND that the ridge is the boundary but I will check again at the hangar..thank you
While everyone races off to the Blue Duck I found the Fuchsia was an ideal place to hunt, just avoid coming out by following the stream....late afternoon hunt to the north of the hut as the deer congregate just in the bush edge awaiting dark...by late afternoon I mean you come home to the hut in the black.
Doc anyway up the back. I took the fam for a walk up to the track last year. It's quite a nice walk.
There's deer around the hut but a walk makes it easy.

Thanks DG, As I said I will check again with Thomas and the team at hanger before we fly, it is managed by the Maori Eastlands Trust as I understand it now and whether they have made changes I am not certain...
East of the block boundary is DOC, so no problems there and most of the catchment is in your block. Plenty of room for you.
Is there still a hut up on Maungaorangi?
