    Not happy with your roaring?

Are you concerned that your imitations may not be sufficiently deep and so perhaps not authoritative enough to be eliciting responses from stags that would otherwise be responding ?

In the highly polygynous and sexually dimorphic Scottish red deer Cervus elaphus scoticus, more successful males give sexually-selected calls (roars) with higher minimum F0s, suggesting that high, rather than low F0s advertise quality in this subspecies...playback experiments demonstrated that oestrous females prefer higher pitched roars...our results have shown that the strength of Scottish red deer stags’ agonistic responses to roars of simulated intruders is not affected by the F0 of the re-synthesized roar. This suggests that F0 does not play a role in red deer male competition (at least in this subspecies)
    Huh. Learn more every day.
