    Pirongia

Hi team, I got a DOC permit for the Pirongia region , is it worth my while going down there for a couple of goats? Or nothing down there in the doc areas?

Know an odd farmer there that backs on to DOC, they have goats on their farms so there should be some elsewhere, go and have a look, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

There are several threads with advice where to go and what it's like.
Use the search function and set it for about the last 2 or 3 years .

Pro shooters were working in the forest park within the last 6 months and took out over 1000 goats

That is a lot of meat waisted!
But I am sure they must be some left for you. At least them will make babies for the next few years.

You will be surprised how quick it will repopulate if the surrounding fencing is not up to grade. We hunt a small 300 acre bush block in south Auckland which you can cover in a day hunt and you shoot 5-10 goats in a day, think you have everything, then go back in a month and shoot another 5-6?? They come in from the surrounding farm land all the time. Don't be discouraged, go for a walk and get to know the hunting area. Stay close to the farm boundaries. I bet you a dollar you will find something.

And ........ a day spent walking in the bush is way better than a day spent in the city!

    This is very true.
5 years and 10 years ago goat numbers were low on pirongia but they come back. Farmland is ideal habitat for them but not always accisible for control operations.
