Potentially more DOC land to be closed off for hunting

    https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/568836/forest-and-bird-slams-reform-as-conservation-retreat-but-minister-defends-economic-push

Early days. - but have a read - 5million hectares could be opened up for use by business interests.

I.E. - that could mean significant loses to good hunting land, as let’s be real - it will be all the primo land that they’ll want.

Have emailed NZDA to see if they are aware and a strongly worded email to MP of hunting and fishing James Meagar to seek clarification on this and if he will live up to his title and ensure public access to public land or if he can’t then he needs to resign.

And lets not forget - DoC doesnt own any land! It is public land managed by DoC on our behalf.

    For reference:
    Kaimanuwas 77,000 hectares
    Kaimais 37,000
    Pureoras 78,000
    Raukumaras 115,000
    Ruahines 94,000

    Total 401 thousand.

If they opened up 5million hectares of Public land for business interests - that’s a significant loss of land in fact that could be ALL land in the North Island and significant chunks in the South Island.

And let’s be real here - when does anyone using or leasing DOC land play nice with hunters?

    This WILL affect us.

If you think five million hectares is going to be ripped up and turned to desert due to mining, you are dreaming.
This will just give the option to apply for consent to mine on public land. It will still need to go through the consent process.
    A sensible decision.
Mining in some areas may in fact give hunters some benifits.

Mate, please don’t try convince me mining on publicly owned land will be a good thing.
That’s just corporate shilling at a net loss of the public.

The thing that shits me is when buisnesses start up on public land we still have to fund some of it. Wouldnt mind so much if a share of the profits ended up in my bank account not in someone elses to spend on my behalf. Happened up our way a while back with a pine forrest, I see some of my rates were funding it but when it was cut down I didnt see anything for my contibution....

If its monitored and controlled there are more benifits than negatives.
But I guess it depends on if they are tree hugging greenies who dont understand economics or someone in the real world, as to the stance taken.

Also depends on what they mean by businesses. It doesn’t necessarily mean businesses have sole access to areas. People taking guided walks need a concession. Duley when he films on conservation land needs a concession.

It’s not about being a tree hugging greenie - which also shows your lack of respect for the land we all currently have access too.

It’s about losing that land access, but your also right - I don’t see it being okay to strip away a janitor and destroy the fauna and flora away so all the profits were put into the pockets of the mining corporation AND NOT put into the tax payers pocket.

The government won’t mine it and keep the profit made to help the tax burden in NZ. Nope it will go to the pockets of the already rich who can afford the necessary bribe of the politician who will grant them the public land to mine - where they’ll kill everything and pay local workers as little as they can get away with (in fact they may bring overseas workers in) and then leave the clean up to the tax payers to foot.

I don’t know about you but I’m tired of buisness making everything worse for the average kiwi.

Fontera won’t even allow them selves to take less profit on the 5% of the dairy products that stay in NZ - they won’t even sell for less than market price - let alone cost price. For 5%!

To think that a mining company will do us any favours is something you should take into consideration before calling me a tree hugging greenie.

yes Mickey Duck Hohum many jumping to conclusions we dont know the facts of yet many concessions they can let out will not effect hunters walking by guides- movies- scenic flights - mining well how much land are we talking about- may well be small select areas rather than huge areas - the one I do worry about is grazing - many with grazing concessions have not been nice to hunters and that does need monitoring - lets see and have some faith that we have a Minister for hunting
