reserve land is sometimes under council control....... the wee dryland block I was trpping on has 4 ha of DOC and the rest is council land......and there is zero difference and DOC have nothing to do with its running.... there are many wee council reserves dotted around the place..I BELIEVE they were origonally there for firewood planting but somewhere along the way that plan got abandoned or someone started to realise the $$$ value ...some still grow trees,sometimes council might break even on them....some get sold off and swallowed into nearby farms.
A lot of Council reserves were for road metal. Most of the pine blocks will have a shingle pit in the middle
