    Rotorua day hunt

There seems to be a shit load of DOC open hunting blocks around the Rotorua region, but I'm struggling to actually pick one. Currently between Kaimais, Mamaku, Mokaihaha and Horohoro, but I have no idea about the deer populations in that area. Cheers

Forget Mokaihaha. It’s been ‘green deathed’ to hell. Kaimais can produce the goods. Have a look at the Paeroa Range near Waikite valley as there are animals there. I’m pretty sure the Lake reserves, eg Okataina, Tarawera etc are closed between Nov and Feb due to ‘tourists’.

Pretty sure Mamaku has been 1080 recently, but is a huge area so check what parts have been shit on. Lakes are closed. PM inbound

Just found this post and potentially looking at heading this way. Does anyone have any primers on this area? Will be my first time there so going to fly camp and try and shoot a deer bush stalking for the first time. Any help would be appreciated. Feel free to PM me.
