Mate keep me posted as I have never chased them either. There are some DoC huts up the Horomanga going in from Galatea that I have had an interest in visiting but have never gotten around to doing.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Try sending a message o CreepingDeath. He lives right at Galatea and probably knows the bush around there well. Also Mucko is not far from there so he may well be in the know as well.

i have been told that the northern side of the Horomaunga is the area to hunt for rusa. are you walking in or flying. Ring Brad at Hamills Rotorua he knows the area very well he can recomend the best hut to stay at. duckville, casino or maungamako. take a dog and check the pestiside summary.

Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out

I have seen two rusa on a roar trip a couple of years ago. Flew into a hut called ngaheramai hut Just south of the Hanamahihi clearing

This is the upper whakatane river if you want some local info try the guys from Lakeland choppers in Murapara
I have also seen them shoot one with the spotlight on Hunting Aotearoa in Rua tahuna which is due south of this spot. The ruse that are in the foothills of Galatea are in some seriously steep shit and from what i have been told there are more further in by the whakatane river

    Hope this helps

I've hunted them twice now in the Galatea area Neckshot.

Never saw any Rusa either time but I did hear plenty and I did get to see where they had been standing just seconds before

I have a trip planned again for later this year .... My plan is to leave the rifle at home so I will at least get to see some this time

    Cheers

Don't think the Horomunga holds any Rusa Neckshot ,main concentration is further along the Galatea faces.

Which part isn't true ? To my knowledge the Horomunga only holds very small numbers of Rusa if any. There are some nicer heavy timbered reds though & none typical Te Urawera heads.
