The short shot and a long climb

    Hi all

Had some folks in hunting the other weekend and came across a few pigs in some scree and scrub out the back of the farm. We were not in the market for a pork so left them be.

Came back last Monday evening and saw the pigs rooting around about 30 m off the track down a wee scree slope so started thinking were was a bit of easy pork. Grabbed the rifle, lined up the fattest piggie (this was to be a mistake) and boom, thud, great. Or not. Piggie jumps and high-tails off down the scree and into the scrub leaking bit of claret.

    So the begins the adventure.

Down the scree into the scrub and follow the blood trail and find the pig. Easy enough 10 min scramble though was surprised to find one of the other porkers standing beside the dead pig (unfortunately I had left the rifle at the bike knowing the climb out was going to be a bastard!). Gutted the pig strapped it to my pack and so begins the epic climb out. What took 10 mins down was a expletive-laden 45 min grind back to the top for which Ed Hillary would have been proud!

Ah well, should have gone for a head shot. Still a bit of sweat for 60 odd lbs on the hook was well worth it
