    Sika head

    Hi guys,
    Not many would remember but my second post ever on the forum was a massive over the top story about my Sika hunt in NZ last year.
    Well freshly in Australia here is my sika, back from Sika country taxidermy in Taupo.

    Pissed that it has a broken ear and smashed up nose but thats australian customs for you - fuckbags

    Happy hunting
    Jack

    Excellent 8 pointer Jack. send customs an invoice for the damage
    It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

    Those are some choice trophies there. Can someone please educate me here - with regard to the points system. I know what they are but how many points would be:

    * Meh

    * Good

    * Awesome!

    * How the fuck?

    * Meh = dont bother getting it scored =less that 120DS

    * Good = 120 to 150

    * Awesome! = 160 to 190

    * How the fuck? = 200 - 230

    Thanks 2shot.

    Weight is a bonus but maybe I should have phrased my question differently, what I was after was the number of points for each category?

    I think the difference between all of those is completely subjective.
    I used to get hung up on score but got really put off by beautiful and clearly great heads that are smashed in the score because of a few "imperfections". Douglas honours aesthetics and doesnt truly take into account the head for what it is, just for what we want it to be. SCI, Pope & Young and Boone & Crockett go too far in favouring outrageous and border genetically altered animals with points coming everywhere.
    I was fortunate enough (if you can call it that) while in NZ at the taxidermist to see the unofficial new number one red stag and it was fucking ugly - one side had literally 10 points where the trey should have been and the rest of the head wasnt much different.

    To me my head is "awesome" or even "How the Fuck" because of the hunt itself, the whole experience and the fun I had getting there.

    At home my "how the fuck" red deer scores about 60 douglas less than my "Good" one based on that.

    I've found that people who are really hung up on score are never happy with what they have - thats not a criticism at all though to those of you who do

    Totaly agree Philip... My mate got a cracker sika head and it lost points for over spread ..... It is perfectly even on both sides and i would be much happier with what he got than some i have seen that are scored much higher!

    Oh okay, was wondering about that, was confused as they did seem quite heavy And I'd no idea what a Douglas score is but have now Google-fu'd it and am absorbing knowledge...
