The very first couple of Sika Shows were held at a pub (the Spa Hotel) so no problem there.

awesome show my boy enjoyed it i did to spent some caught up with some mates
Way better with more area to have stalls more spread out. I was involved with measuring heads yesterday & had a quick look after. Came back today with grandson as promised. Didn't buy much as I'm at an age where I have all I need, but good to look anyway & bumped into a few mates. My skin wasn't cracking so I didn't need a drink,
Anyone know the score of the winning Sika head?
Man I'd hate to be on a stall if all the punters were cruising around pissed
I'm not quite sure where this all came from. But there were three stalls selling alcohol but drinking on site wasn't allowed other than a tiny taster to try some of the products. There was Ruahine ports who had been attending the Sika show for years I remember them at the Taupo show. Then there was some gin manufacturer and another one selling a selection. All very civilised and no one getting drunk.
OT
Last time I was in the Spa Hotel was on Saturday of the weekend Norman Kirk died, 1974.
A mate and I met up with some Taupo bushmen he knew from his woodchopping comps.
They wouldn't let us buy any grog. They were buying a wooden crate of Lion Brown big bottles at a time, all with the tops removed. I thought I was going to drown.
The old place had atmosphere. No idea what it's like now. IIRC it may have been badly flooded since I was there.
Old Mr Bernie and his wife would call on me in the 80s at Fletchers in Carterton. He used to pocket book timber all round New Zealand.
I had a few sessions there in the lat 60s with my mates on Holiday in Taupo
I went along to the Sika Show yesterday and it was good fun!
Spent a bit, not too much, and saw some very cool things.
Not many 'real deals' noticed, but we can't always be tight bushmen.
Don't know about the top Sika Head Score but saw a marvellous mounted Fallow Head on display which I swooned over. Definitely the best NZ Fallow Head I have ever seen. Massive, symmetrical paddles that would make a moose weep!
It's one thing to have a couple of beers and chat with mates it's another thing to get plastered and act a fool. If you can have 2 beers and still drive home or even in this country it's not illegal to have a beer while you drive I don't see what's so bad about having a beer at a show like this . Your not using the firearms like at a range where I would suggest not drinking until after the range is closed but I really can't see anything wrong with having a beer or two catching up with mates at an event like this .

@phil243 it’s the PC world we now live in, the weekends we had in Taupo were really great. The shows were great, the exhibits awesome.
I don’t know about this year, I didn’t attend, but last years show was, to my mind, controlled by the police. Compared to Taupo, it had changed dramatically, it’s amazing how Tarrant changed our world
Yea I can't agree more . Last year I went and said I wasn't going to go back but I did go back and this year was much better . The world is very PC now . It's a real shame. The few keep ruining things for the many. In saying it was much better I still think it was better at taupo.

The wife and I went.
A lot of police but then the PM turned up.
I had already spoken to one of the cops and he said we will be gone by midday not sure if that happened.
I didn't buy anything, wife bought some cushion covers enjoyed her day out.
Spoke to jet boil guys and figured out why my lid wasn't fitting properly ,operator error.
Wanted to have a fondle of a couple of binos that I am considering as a retirement present to myself in the next while.
River to Ranges had the Swaro I was interested in, the Nikon stand didn't have the HGs so didn't get to do a rough compare.
Will wander down to Hastings and have a better look some time.
Had a yarn with a few vendors.
But it is not a bad day out, and without getting too political ACT and the Nats were there so my take is they consider our community important.
Wife loves it so it is a good chance to have a good look at some stuff.
Blahahahahahahaha wholy fuk has this thread made me laugh, I was planning on heading up to the show but unfortunaly work got in the way.
So seems like the show set up was far better than last year, these things take time to sort at new venues & glad to hear that all those poxy roof tents n stuff have been booted outside & people had a good time ( be nice if some photos were posted up ) but I gutted as by the sounds of it I missed out on a great old school piss up !!!
So I would love to know what the "story" is with this apparently appalling situation that occurred at the show , were there companies - vendors selling alcohol in sealed bottles or was there an actual open bar where such things as beer, wine or a whisky could be purchased & consumed while in the building ?
Oh GOD, won't someone please think of the Children
WTF is wrong with you cunts that are so offended by the sale of alcoholic beverages at the hunting n shooting show, it's not illegal, companies like Ruahine Ports have been a great supporter of the show for years & I hope there was an open bar there, nothing like catching up with someone you having seen for months, putting ya feet up, taking a break & having a cold one while chewing the fat.
Reminds me of the story a fulla posted on here a few months back, where he slipped down a bank, nearly ripped his leg off & spent the night on the hill, lucky to be found n pulled out the next day, you know what I remember from that story, he said that him & his mate had had a beer with lunch when they landed while coming up with a hunting plan & there was a small group of true fuk wits that jumped all over the poor prick, basically saying that it was him having a stubbie that caused the whole situation, like karma jumped up & got him.
I might look into have a bar at the next show, be great, jelly wrestling, Tequila shoots & wheelbarrows for true hardcore punters to be pushed around the show in hahahaha
I dont think anyones offended by drinking. I think its more about it will only take one fukwit to get hammered and carry on like an idiot and bye bye show. Much like at our range we dont have a bar running for good reason, even if your not shooting no drinking. If your that desperate for a drink theres plenty of bars in hamilton. Last year when we went we bumped into some people we hadnt seen for ages and we had a catch up didnt bother us that there was no alcahol...the media would be more than happy to portray us as crazy drunk firearms owners given the chance..
Have a beer in the car park with your mates....
This woke world we now live in seems to be rubbing off on a few.
I probably wouldn’t have a beer there but it would be nice to have the choice.
We need less control in our lives not more!
Im sure a lot of you are responsable as far as drinking goes. The private functions that you guys organize sound like great fun. Unfortunatley as usual its the idiots we have to cater for when anyone is allowed entry. I cant actually think of any other gun show where they have a bar. We will have to give this show another try as it sounds like we just got a dud show last year.
Ban everything, some one might make us look bad
Most there are Fit and Proper citizens, able to own firearms, but not have a beer FFS. Did they still have the window of opportunity to purchase a firearm and go up stairs to an AO to confirm and register it?
I know I’m just stirring, but it’s windy and pissing down. on the bright side, my water tanks will be full:)
@phillipo your da man, I’ll have a beer with you next year, even if I have to bring my own:cool:
