Wish we could get something like that in Christchurch, would be amazing for the South Island.
We use to was called the tahr show was great till an sports shop that I will not name got in charge and started price setting everyone so nobody could do deals on anything
That is a real shame
Would be amazing to have one at the lower north island
Like the central district feildays
Its the whole "50% of the country's population live north of Hamilton " thing
So like last year, little in the way of firearms and no ammo, pity the semis are gone, the police control last year was pathetic and there was No alcohol, OK if you a nun, I don’t think I’ll be there, unless someone can change my mind.
Yeah, until its gets back to (even) a semblance of the glory days, it doesn't spin my wheels.
Better to invite a mate around with all his guns, drag yours out, with a bottle of your best and ooohh and aaahh over each's coveted smoke and smokeless throwers:cool:
So last year was a pretty shit show? I went because Id heard its the biggest and best show in nz I was wandering around it which didn't take long at all and thought fuk me going to gun city I can see most of the stuff I want to look at and its free entry....
come on @Maca49 you aren't to old to get in your best camo and gumboots:) I did have to laugh last year at the amount of guys dressed up head to toe:D
I don’t get the negativity…
I bought tickets on line and had a query about them, couldn’t find an answer on the homepage.
I left a message on the answer phone for the number advertised.
Got a call back the next day and had quite a chat to one of the organisers. Really surprised he’d actually bothered to do so.
Found a new venue, Taupo was becoming problematic.
These guys are pretty passionate about Sika, the outdoors industry etc. They’ve put it all on the line, hung in through Covid, lockdowns etc
I think it’s a measure of how much the industry values the show, that the likes of the Wapiti Foundation, Outfitters, , Conservators, niche manufacturers and suppliers travel so far just for a weekend.
It’s become a bit of Trade Show the industry so desperately needs in my view. Networking instead of continuous back stabbing.
If the naysayers reckon these guys are doing it all wrong, just call them, let them know, I’m sure they’d value your input…..
Otherwise buy a ticket, say hello to Todd McClay, Nicole McKee, and chillax.

^ Well said @shift14
We'll be exhibiting again this year, swing by for a yarn! Some cool new products in the pipeline
Totally agree. My 2 cents - strategically time your 'drive by' of the Traeger Tent to maximise your chances of a brisket/tomahawk/pulled pork coming out of the smoker. And as for the zero-alcohol policy, there's an exhibitor on the list called 'HI IQ Liquor', and it'll be a tough task keeping the show dry with the World Cup final being televised on site early Sunday morning!
Massive crowd there today. Place was heaving. Surprised by the turnout to be honest. Im sure all the trade exhibitors will be happy with the crowds.
Went to day great turn out and great show spent way to much
Well didn’t get to the show but a good forum member (Tech) picked up a spare Bill Nikl knife for me.

Was a lot better this year there was plenty of room
Went along today, plenty to see , good turn out and weather was pleasant , a nice day out all round.
spent 500 on ammo there today
I went today, i have only attended the last 2 Taupo shows before, and now this one. And this one for me is far better than the last 2 Taupo ones. More space, more exhibitions, closer to home, and quitw a few good deals. I remember leaving one of the Taupo shows i attended and feeling like it was a waste of time, overcrowded and no good deals (this was in that small venue in town the went to).
I unfortunately cant compare to the heydays of the Taupo event.
I feel i got my $25 worth
Yep Steeve wholesale presence was pretty good. Better organised than last year for sure.although by 3 pm the bulk of the visitors had gone.
Enjoyed my day out there. Was much better set out than last year.
Instagram was full of photos of the show yesterday, it looked really good . Luxon was in one of them with the president of the Upper Hutt deerstalkers.
I haven’t been to a Sika show for years (last time was probably circa 2010) when they used to be in Taupō. I shot down to Mystery Creek yesterday for a couple of hours. There was a few stands I expected to see and a few things I think they could do to spice it up a bit but all in all I thought for the $25 paid for entry that it was pretty reasonable. Good options for food to eat. Plenty of unnecessary items to buy if you have the money :D
It’s a Sika show not the field days, you can hardly expect to be walking around for 6 hours. And at the risk of sounding like a labour supporter does drinking grog (there was a couple of stands selling spirits) at a gun and hunting show really look great?
Its quite funny how everything has to revolve around drinking for some people. How do you get on spending a week in the bush...
Can't remember dates of the previous Show I went to, but it was Taupo, pre Covid.
I enjoyed my renewed acquanitance with the Sika Show yesterday. A heap of people there in the morning, fewer from early afternoon. Made checking out the stands much easier. Picked up a few useful things without spending too much. Always pay close attention to things reloading related and was alittle disappointed that offerings were not as numerous as I remember but thanks to those who did display wares for sale. Sadly I didn't find anything amongst those I wanted to buy.
Found a reasonably priced headlamp for my wife - Brownie points bonus
Saw a cool dayglo orange cover for a Leica Rangefinder. But $100 - ouch !, and not this time thankyou.
Caught up with some old friends not seen in a while - always good.
Gave a few dollars of support to two worthy organisations - NZDA and Sika Foundation, both dear to my heart.
The Act bus with a few pollies was there so took the opportunity to thank Nicole McKee for all her great work on behalf of our firearms community.
A great pleasure was meeting a H&S member, @7mmwsm with whom I have been corresponding for a while.
After leaving the Show I rounded off the day attending the annual SCI NZ Chapter dinner at Sky City. Hadn't attended one of those in some time either. Great catching up with some old contacts and comparing grey hairs :D
Overall I had a great day of immersion in our Kiwi hunting culture. Hope to get there next year
