Hmmm, I think you'd be very unlikely to get permission from the land authority (nzta, doc, linz etc). You could ignore that but then you'd be in the illegal category immediately.

Farmer said ok to shoot, but its next to road... thought snares be the safer way
So no sharing pests( in otago , well m. Kenzie I'm told)
Stares are legal in NZ. But there are conditions.
Off for swim, will post a bit more later.

Not a very viable way to reduce the rabbit population if it's in the MacKenzie (theres shit tonnes of them..) and if you're just trying to get one for the pot I couldn't think of anything worse to eat than an animal that's basically strangled itself to death

BTW strangulation releases endorphins simular to morphine , eg bleeding out I was told by a coroner , so it's actually not a bad way to go@[EVIL][/EVIL];
so long as you have permission of the land owner you are good to go - have fun - the legal requirement I believe you will need to check snare each day but what legislation thats under ??- just don't leave snares unattended and let animals die a horrible starvation death in them - I am sure that's illegal but cant immediately put my finger on the legislation that covers snaring - but have fun doing it and rabbit curry yeah should be good
If you're not quick the harriers will be snacking as well.
Think about other critters that can get caught, notably local pets.
