Good to know, no one should be hunting on private land without permission anyway!

I was thinking more that the OP could ask the farmer, but from your comments he might get a negative response. But it would inciate there's plenty of animals around the area in the DoC land at least, providing it can be legally accessed of course...

Sorry, I was trying to describe the difficulty with getting access on his land, with so many attempts, always being denied and he complains to the media that hunters aren't doing it the Government should step up.

The OP JustAnotherSpear will get plenty of opportunities for easy day hunts on the Wet Coast

I know the type, some people are always looking for problems, not answers! Sounds like he doesn't help himself. But maybe he's had some bad experiences with others, who knows...

    Hi guys,
Little bit of an update, ferry was delayed originally so we spent the first night at rarangi.
Headed into leatham conservation area, tootled around and drove round to a few different huts. Decided against crossing the road the branch river. Where vehicles had previously crossed I got my nut sack wet at 8am wasn't overally pleasant.
Spent the night by the airfield at caves hut. Had a evening walk along the riverbed with the missus. Plenty of fresh sign no animals seen.

Headed south from their did some touristy stuff, went through to ahuriri Base Hut and spent the evening gassing the surrounding hills. Turned around when the sunstrike became too much to have 2 yearlings being silly sausages down wind from us. Were 900m away and didn't like the look of the missus or me once when stood up to try close the gap they headed off at a seriously quick pace. Neat to see. Following morning missus slept in picked up 4 deer with the thermal 1.6kms away and once again they werent staying put to play ball.

Time to soak in hamner springs and plan the next adventure while trying to avoid the rain / rising rivers
