Definitely not a bark, almost like a very high pitched sneeze.
Never heard it's like before, but quite cool listening to it and attempting to sneak up on it just to find out. It happened high in a gully just east of the DOC track that leads to nowhere up the stream from Loveday (when heading toward Billy Goats on the other side of the ridge line).
Spoke to a fellow from Dannevirke who has said the farm deer have been roaring over that way, even though they are still hard in velvet. The source is reliable and not prone to exaggeration. Anyone else heard anything about a possible early roar?
