Fairly typical Ruahine stag. Pretty exciting for the young fulla as he came charging in roaring his head off.

Would have been a thrill for you both. Is that a bullet between its eyes?

Must be just a tuff of fur, he shot it front on. Got it on video so I'll post a clip up when I get a chance.

Got this big 6 point sika stag this morning, big brows and plenty of length, 35 inches! Shame he didn’t have a couple of extra points. Pretty happy with him anyway. Name: 683595D5-2F79-4C22-B85C-3F00D2B704DF.jpeg

No never heard a thing all day. Spent quite a bit of April chasing sika and found it very quiet to previous roars.

Spent 10 days starting the 16th moving from around Boyd through to the te iringa and didn’t hear much at all. The night of the 22nd was up the maungaorangi and was a bit of roaring but only what you’d expect on a normal night that time of April. Really quiet overall. Shot a decent one after I roared and he stuck his head out of the scrub to see what was going on. Only single call I heard was after I lost my caller so was doing single calls only and one responded from across the valley then completely shut up.

After 19 trips to stewart island, and not even pulling the trigger on most trips, just holding out for a nice buck, I finally pulled it off! Still can't believe it's happened. One of the most popular hunting blocks on the island and I snagged this guy 300m from the hut! Stoked is a total understatement haha. Trophy of my absolute dreams. Life complete haha
