Suggestions for Hunting road trip in the South Island

    Hi Guys,

I am looking at doing a road trip with 1-2 friends down south around mid November (for 2ish weeks)
And am looking for recommendations on where to go or places to visit.

We are aiming to target some Tahr and red deer but would also enjoying doing some wallaby hunting and fishing as well.
    (fresh and salt water)
Bonus if we can meet some good buggers along the way.
My last trip down south I got access to some private blocks and met some absolute legends which was amazing and it would be great to catch up with some more like minded people again.
We pay our way and don't expect anything for free.

We don't have any set places planned yet so am happy to travel anywhere at this stage.

We will traveling in a 4x4 and would like to use this as our base camp while hunting and exploring so areas where there is 4x4 access is preferred but not essential.

Open to any suggestions and tips if you legends have them!

My only suggestion is to spend most of your time on the west coast, and pack plenty of Bushman's insect repellent.

As the good man mentioned above..never mention that bull shit word Legend, more so if you decide to visit the coast.
Another fare warning that will apply on the Coast also is never step outa your 4x4 with an ego sign tattooed across your
forehead. Oh and there is a fee if you do intend to visit the mighty West Coast.
    Happy travels

    Noted.
South island west coasters are not legends and do not like being called that.
I am not from Auckland nor do I drive a ranger so no need to worry about the ego sign.
If this fee is beer I always carry plenty and am not expecting anything for free.

Sorry text is hard to show sarcasm, cheers mate. I was on the west coast many years ago and am looking forward to seeing it again. Always loved the rough west coast!

Ive been down south a few times now and absolutely love it! the hospitality reminds me of what New Zealand used to be like before everyone become selfish and hungry for a dollar.
Yes diving off the side of the road is a great idea! We are aiming to survive off the proteins we hunt and gather which will be a fun challenge!
