Several forum members have used this on occasion,

One of the things I have never understood is this "would like somewhere that has more deer to hunt"...there are plenty of deer in the area but the calibre of the man is lacking...then there is the calibre of the rifle that the man carries that is lacking and he is not prepared to increase it to what the conditions require.
Those that hunt the area on a regular basis take deer on a regular basis.
As for the block at Tarawera...that country is a fucken lot harder to hunt than the Kaimai's
I am going for a look at this on Sunday :D
let me know what u think. I would suspect security would be a very real issue
Heading down that way for a few days so will sort out a look. Looks ok on maps but agree security would be an issue, build a hut and come back to a pile of rubble type scene.
Block looks to be quite close to SH and easily accessed by all :(
Hmmm!
Put it this way, if you lost a T3 bolt there, won't take much to find it
The block indicated by the address given is only quarter of an acre and seems to be on the wrong side of SH5 and does not resemble the photos on the TM page. I reckon it must be another land packet across the way that is for sale
Says $85K on the real estate sign. Also says great hunting
Not bad if your looking for a place to park a caravan or small portacom to go off and hunt during the day

That Looks like its close to the little settlement at Tarawera where the pub is, going into the gorge on the road out of Taupo side. If I'm right!
I used to guide flyfishing around here, and as others have said a little local agreement to you being there is key. A little product Koha and keeping the local Marae in good with you is the key with the local Elders being teh ones in my experience who keep the peace or you have a bad experience.
I Always used to drop in a couple of Trout at the Marae every time I was passing and never had a car break in or access issue as a result in the area as my car was known, lots of other guides were the same...(Touch wood!!!)
From distant memory i.e 10 years ago wasn't there a local job creation scheme and Maori land farm around there too? that backed onto the big Stephenson place? - I used to raft the Mohaka with Ricks crew out of Te Haroto and he organised access through CHH forests to put in on the bottom of the Repia to travel down the Mohaka fora couple of days awesome trips!! and full of deer!
Let me know if you decide to go ahead.

Theres a pub!!!!....WTF are we waiting for......
Pub. Hotpools. Chopper pickup nearby (chris crosse ). Less than an hour to Taupo. Heaps of deer nearby.
OK bear with me I'm typing this on a phone with sausage fingers.
I know the exact property for sale, and know the immediate area inside out hunting wise. Without going into too much detail, if you were buying this for a place to base yourself for hunting, You would be better putting that 50k into 50 odd chopper rides!
I'd put some reflective eyes up on the other end of the property away from your planned hut :D
Yep. Shes 50k for a reason! That said there are a few deer in there. When I lived nearer, I would say I recall at least 50 odd deer taken from within 1-2km of that site?
All with the "Murupara moonbeam" of course :ninja:
@Timmay look familiar haha?
And even then he brought it only a couple of years back!
A side of this it still it wouldn't be bad to have a forum designated hut or camp clearing as a social base in some hunting location
Its got my attention
I think a better idea would be to look a bit further down the Napier Taupo Road.Did they say in thr ad it was freehold or leasehold as
I seem to remember all that tract being Maori Land...?
I know I've been looking for my semi retirement for something along Waitara road (off where it turns off from the SH) and it crosses the Mohaka along where the Waipunga comes in past Brooks road (at the organ pipes if you know it). So if anyone hears of anything PM me.
Always good to try and secure land for future use when and if - you can. I know a number of fishing clubs who are grateful for club huts and accom's around the place..
