High country taxidermy in west Melton. Does good work and at a good price.
Wildmount just down the awatere valley. Dashwood I think. Had good work done for a chamois mount. But you could cut the middle man and send it frozen to animal tanning services down Invercargill. Pretty sure he uses them anyway for tanning.
Turners’ tannery in Leeston
He’s done a few bull Tahr for me now and always done a fantastic job. Just expect to wait a few months.
Thanks men, will follow up
Bringing an old thread back up – I’ve spent months now trying to contact Turners in Leeston. I can’t be bothered ringing, getting no answer and no follow up on the multiple messages anymore – is there anyone else to consider in CHCH region. I have 3 Bull Tahr skins to be tanned.
Call Tyrone in dunsandel or any taxidermist in Canterbury and they will tell you where to get it done at a reasonable price.

Most taxidermist won’t touch them either – I know Tyrone wont as he points everyone to Leeston. But their customer service would have to improve to be called poor. Its non-existent.
@Hayden C
They are even worse once you’ve finally managed to drop off your skin.
now not sure with your tanners down there but a good point ( maybe teaching you to suck eggs but ) label your skin - I took a fallow skin in when we had a tannery at Stratford went to pick it up and mixed in with 4-5 other menil fallow skins - feck could not tell exactly which was mine well actually my nephews first deer - the ideal is a sheep ear ID tag plastic you can write your name on it with a tag pen that actually eats into the plastic wont come off - put it on the end of a leg or anywhere you can nip it off later - at a pinch cut a small piece of plastic off a container of some sort - heavy plastic - name on with indelible marker - drilll hole and attach with a small electricians tie
Try @Billbob right here on the Forum. Or track down Black Stag Tannery in the North Island, excellent work, FB might be the best way. Have tanned many a tahr skin over the years and to do a nice job it would take me about 7-10 hours of work spread over 3-4 weeks to get a nice supple skin for the floor or the wall, hence the $360 above. You can do it yourself with a Leiders tanning kit, not too difficult, and can get it done in your own time.
This guys pretty good if you are prepared to courier stuff.
Overkill is still dead.
