Thread: Te Awahohonu forest

Has anyone managed to get permission to go into the Te Awahohonu forest, more so down Toropapa track? On our way home yesterday we done a little off roading just to be nosey and wouldn’t mind heading back. I grabbed the number on the sign so I’ll give them a call later in the week but just wanted to know if they have let anyone else in there.

Just to add, were not really looking to hunt the Awahohonu forest, but topo maps shows it backs onto public hunting land in the ahimanawa range. Were not familiar with the area at all just looking for a new adventure.

The sign said it’s managed under NZ forest management and had a number, I’m going to give them a call later in the week. I’m just not sure if they have been letting people in. I found 1 post on fish n hunt that’s about 12 years old saying they had a ballot but couldn’t find anything else and it was a really old post.

They have , or had ballots for some hunting blocks in there. Phone them and see how the situation is for access. Things hsve been changing.
