Hey mate I have used both types, the type moon hunt used always seemed to be full but whereas the larger cage or heart shaped type very rarely produced the goods. Don't have a clue why but it may be something to consider going to if you have no joy with the large circular mesh set-up. As the guys have mentioned the square cage may be small but it's not unusual for a number of pigs to fill it up. Goodluck

Mucko, you could make one like Moonhunt's that was able to be broken down and bolted together. That way you could carry it in in pieces and assemble it on site.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

I roll it end over end, I made it way more lightweight than the first as getting them in place can make it a chore
With 2 long bamboo poles or similar lashed to to sides it could be an easy carry for 2 guys
And keep googling there are some guys in the US that trap full time and make there traps as they go with pre made panels

I've seen quite a few of the 6 shaped traps on one of the farms we shoot and they do very well. Have seen several pigs in them on a number of visits. I have considered setting up my trailer cage as a trap, it is made of panels that I pin together. If I was making traps like moonhunts I'd make them with a door that closes at a 45 degree angle with a spring so that is effectively self resetting like the '6' shaped netting trap.
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!

The way Moonhunt described his, it's also self resetting but just using gravity to fall back down when the other little porkers push there way through? Poor little tasty bacon parcels with no oppose-able thumbs to get out.

    Dumb question time.
How do you guys dispatch the porkers once they are in the trap? Bravely with a knife or close up shot? I was thinking that a shot from a distance may be the go so they dont stress out, but i guess there is a risk of ricochet doing that

The door on mine opens in but wont open out, i made it slightly bigger than the door hole, it hangs virtically with some springs from under the couch across the face so when it opens in they tighten making it want to spring back shut, you can play with the tension a bit, mine shuts reas quick but not over the top pressure

I walk up in a calm manner and pop them point blank with a .22, i have seen a large boar in one thats a wee bit differant they go off, but stand still and they settle enough to pop them

My first trap i built a mesh floor in, but someone told me they dont like it so i cut it out, i hadnt caught a pig at that stage

I have made 3 massive tent pegs out of reo bar and hit them home, also 2 warratas and soft wire lashing them to the cage
