Drive out to where you think may be some possums and start door knocking. Ask if its possible for you to trap some possums, explain how you want to get some cash together cos youre interested in hunting and would like to buy a rifle when you get your license. Dont say too much about the hunting, focus on the possums and making some cash. Once you get a foot in the door, and have trapped a few possums and have some fur mounting up, keep the farmer/s concerned informed of your progress. This is all about establishing a rapport, proving your credibility and work ethic. Do that right and access to use a rifle and look for other game will follow. And then one farmer mentions you to his neighbour and you may get access to further properties. Its a slow process, but in a lot of cases its the groundwork for lifelong relationships.

    2nd what @Husky1600#2 said.
Simple things like observe how many run over on the road.
Then call in and ask if you can help.
Once you have your foot in the door you are good.
Cockies can be pretty good too if you do a good job they will look after you.
Phillip Ward did Dads possums and us boys were told not to bugger up Dads arrangement with him.
In other words leave the deer alone he does my possums.
