Thread: Two Mates a 308 and some Fallow

Yesterday was one of those cloudless Hawkes Bay afternoons, sun loitering off the main range and thistle down hangs in the air. Two lads caught up under a wide Tōtara tree and decided that covering ground for a Fallow far more entertaining than loading firewood into a Ute.

From a high point my guide soon had a target rich valley sorted.

Covering open ground and navigating other living alarm systems adding to the fun, a hidden pond surprised both Lads and waterfowl as we froze and hoped no paradise ducks were in residence.

Luck on our side we carried on into a small Tōtara covered creek/gully system enabling an approach downwind and out of sight

Climbing out to the next high point and crawling into position we put the 308 where it could survey the valley

Fallow calmly went about their day, unaware. Assessing their placement and escape path through the Leupold Sakos bolt was shut and off we go

All in all a stunning afternoon with the best company you could ever hope for and no carrying of firewood or deer
