    Waikamaka hut info

    Hey we have waikamaka hut for the roar this year and just wondering has anyone been here and do they have any info they would like to share. Pretty keen to get something better then a 5 pointer this year haha as I seem to be cursed to them for the roar . Cheers phill

    Depends on how you plan to get in there.... Waipawa Saddle is the worst route in the Ruahines. PERIOD. If you are flying in, the leatherwood around the tops is a prick, combined with the Spanish Bayonet towards Rangi Saddle and the tops - I wish you luck. River hunting is prosperous, albeit you will cover a few miles - and if heading downriver towards Wakelings you will get your balls wet.
    Hate to sound cynical - but best of luck beating your 5 pointer....

    ...The hut is really nice now though: HTC have just put on a new veranda and tank water. Plenty of firewood around and a newish stove/fireplace: it's a great place when its cold.

    ..probably not, but you have to work for it: and have pretty good suction going down the West side.

    My grandad drove a bulldozer half way up there for a hut site...
    You can still kinda see the track on the terrace....before they decided to put it where the chalet is now.
    Must of been about 50 years ago now.
