What do you guys do to prepare your rifle for wet weather?
Put a bit of tape over the hole in suppressor. Good to go
If it's wood, I pull it apart and wax it up. All metal is rubbed down with "MARVEL OIL" if it's Stainless/Blued if it needs it or not! Google Marvel Oil!
Scope caps and muzzle tape.
Scope caps, muzzle tape and and keep a fired round closed in chamber if raining so water doesnt run dont bolt into chamber etc
Tissue in my pocket to wipe scope, the trick is weather proofing that
Remove it from the stock, strip it. Apply lanacote( from CRC) on major parts with an old touth brush.
On moving parts ( trigger, bolt)I use wd40 or CRC long life.
For the wood, if it is dry and clean on the inside, you can seal it with varnish or araldite clear applied with a latex glove.but not where the action is resting( that should be properly bedded)
If wood is oily , then use a wax or linseed oil .
The outside of your stock should already be protected.
I don't use a suppressor.
Should I be worried about water getting in from the bolt end and getting trapped?
I recall on hunting adventures he said to leave a fired round in the chamber to stop water getting in, but firing a round to seal the chamber doesn't suit me.
Awesome thanks for tips lads.
Issues with tissues? @Gibo
I'm definitely not, we all know your missus is mate.
I would think that obvious, its the tissue construction it's self (even if perfectly clean) that can do damage.
I took my rifle for a walk at okataina after rain, kept finding bits of tissue on the ground.
I thought someone must of gone hunting with a cold. Now I know better lol.
I take a microfiber cloth with me, Mobil were giving them away not long ago.
There is a line of thought that when people have an opinion as to politics/thoughts etc that when presented with facts/figures that oppose their original mind set instead of listening/accepting and changing their own view point they further intrench themselves in their original position.
It would be best for you to do your own research :)
That's a very lazy way of thinking. If you're making an assertion, it is up to you to provide the evidence that backs it up. Telling people to "do their own research" is effectively saying "I can't be bothered supporting my argument".
Moreover, people "doing their own research" are far more likely to seek out information that agrees with their biases.
So you're full of shit then :D
Toilet paper has scratchy stuff in it which scratches you lenses. Tissues also do to a lesser extent. Opticians give you a microfiber cloth to wipe your glasses with and you need to wash them regularly to remove grit and grease.
5mins on Google tells me tissues work well to soak up water drops but rubbing with tissues will scratch overtime.
Well if toilet paper is no good im going to get steel wool instead.
So adding nothing then?
