    What are the best dates for the roar in Lower Southland ?

    I'm a young hunter who has gone out twice for the roar for the previous years roar but didnt hear anything. Help please👍

    Any time from now until mid April. The more you go out the more likely you are to hear something roaring.
    Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

    Everywhere is different.

    The Longwoods and the takis for example will be completely out of sinc.

    My only tip is as above is to just get there as often as you can.

    In well hunted areas,Longwoods, Hoki's Etc, you will hear more noise after dark and an hour or so before daylight.
    if you don't hear anything, try to entice them by giving a few roars yourself.

    You should hear roars between the 10th-20th April.Mornings and evenings as the light changes.

    I had one roaring well yesterday for about an hour. He gave me the slip in some very steep bluffy country after giving me a real run around..

    The Waikaia roar ballot runs from the third Monday in March to the third Sunday in April so thats a rough idea of the window

    early april, I would stick out of the longwoods, with so many great places near invercargill I wouldn't risk going there ahaha
