Integrated optics has been the area with the most advances in the last decade or so. I expect to see more in that space.
In the competition space we are starting to see real benefits in workflow when you integrate range finding, atmospheric sensing and ballistic solvers into the optics.
The next big step would be someone figuring out how to detect wind at various ranges, and feeding that into a ballistic solver. Wind remains the single biggest failure point for most shooters.
Already seeing quite a few of the "competition" technology changes making their way into the hunting space. Guys seeing the benefit of carbon tripods in a tussock or scrub environment.
I'd be quite happy to use something like the Hoddnet speed dot system and FFP christmas tree reticle for medium range hunting, it extends the traditional 200m walking zero by a fair amount.
