    What's the weather doing?

    Does anyone have a good website for a 24 hour forecast. Right now pissing down in Hamilton and trying to figure out whether to go tomorrow to the Kaimais early doors or stay in bed.
    Better yet anyone up there just now fancy popping their head out the window and letting me know what it looks like.

    Cheers

    I use Metvuw.com and I select North Island 7 day view

    These are the websites i use...
    just search for your location, town or rural, and look at the rain radar when you are a day or so out, shows a bit of detail of the fronts etc...

    Tauranga Weather - NZ Weather Forecast Tauranga from MetService.com
    Tauranga Weather From NZCity

    ...search for Waikato as well and that should give you a good guess of what the conditions should be like.

    I have planned many a hunt trip around it. The thing is to go prepared for the worst though as the weather can change quick in the hills and bush.

    Yeah growing up in rural Scotland it never ceased to amaze me how many "tourists" went for a walk and ended up being airlifted out. Short and t-shirt brigade v's northerlies only one that will win that argument.

    For our horse trekking over the Kaimai's I use YR.NO...tap in Manawaru for Waikato and Katikati for Bay of Plenty...not too bad for accuracy but wind is usually wrong as the wind in the hills is way more than the flatland.
    I have a couple of hunters who get me to do a visual at 3 am and text them and they decide as to whether they get out of bed or not.

    So let me get this straight Spook, they get you to get out of bed and check the weather so they can decide whether to stay in bed? Mighty kind and hospitable of you but ....... are you bloody nuts man?

    High Altitude Wind Forecast

    +1 for MetVUW. Worth resurrecting this thread as I'm always keen to promote (specifically) the MetVUW High Altitude Wind forecast pages. The more hits the less chance of this service being scrapped when the next round of cost-saving bites at Vic. For finding out when it is going to be dead calm up on the tops the wind predicted on the surface (sea-level) forecast is not necessarily going to be close to what will be happening up at say 1500m.

    New Zealand Weather Forecast

    Forecast choices in MilliBars, equivalent mean altitude to the nearest 50 metres.
    800mB = 1950m
    850mB = 1450m
    800mB = 1000m
    925mB = 750m
    950mB = 550m

    Always checked closely when planning a trip. I'd spend a lot more time out in less than ideal conditions without this.
