    Wild vision app

    Anyone used / tried this?

    How’d you find it?

Seems like a neat concept / idea and pretty interested in it if it helps find me new spots.

(I have nothing to do with this site and I’m not trying to advertise it!)

Sorry! Not an app just a website.

Looked like it’s scraped up all the DOC info on hunting area and access points to try make it easier to find spots??

I keep getting adds for it on social media and looks like a neat idea but not one for $10 a month unless someone could actually recommend it!

I'm not sure how much use it would be for the more experienced hunter who already has a number of spots under his belt and understands how to access these different areas.

But I could see it being really useful for a someone new to the sport. Say someone who has just finished the NZDA Hunts course and is now looking to start doing more on their own, it could definitely be beneficial. Point you towards areas that hold your target species, how to access the area, etc. It also points out areas that are supposed to have more animal movement. I doubt this is very accurate but as a budding hunter it would at least allow you to plan a trip around certain zones. Rather than going in blind I guess.

Not sure how many people will use it, but I can see the benefits

Interesting. If it was just spots and access then the doc website is pretty good, or topomaps with hunting area overlay. I guess if they have got hold of animal number surveys of each area then that could be kind of handy.

They mentioned it and said was worth checking out.

I just did the free trial, waste of time. Has no information you couldn’t get off the nztopo50 cross checked with doc website.

I told it to show me where red deer are and that I’ll drive anywhere - it would ONLY show me pirongia and none of the other doc areas that I know hold red deer.

Super buggy aswell and all round felt it was a waste of time.

Sounds like a user-pays version of the old Huntingspots.co.nz website. It looks like that has closed down unfortunately - I thought it was pretty good.

I signed up for the app super early and gave feedback to the founder. It's a good idea and provides some value - basically showing you the best time to hunt for any given area. Seems like an obvious AI play into the future - track the good spots/times/conditions and provide the best recommendation on any given day. Not there yet... Personally I think it would go better as a free app for a few more years as they build the dataset, but you know, cash and all that... If they did an angel investment round I would back it. There may have been some updates over winter but I don't know.
