Thread: 10/22 trigger job & recommendations please

Hi All,
Going to be doing a trigger job on a 10/22 I bought recently. Currently it has the factory 7lb or something silly in it. You cant squeeze it, you have to pull it, bloody horrible.

Looking to get it swapped out, there seems to be many options.

I put a Timney trigger in my Ruger hmr, made the world of difference, and it was cheap to do (about $100). Looking at Timney for the 10/22 seems to cost a wheelbarrow fill of cash to buy but is it worth it? Or is the BX just as good (apart from its plastic). Or are there other options?

Thoughts, ideas, discussion greatly appreciated

The BX version is not too badly priced and makes it far more usable.

plastic housing with stainless sear or alloy housing with blued ?
both are capable of being done at home, i can show you how or do it here. alternatively zac at nth canty gunsmiths does a nice job

Dropped a Timney into mine and it is good

In hindsight I should have got the mag release thingy that sticks out as it is easier to use rather than stuffing your fingers into what feels like the local town whore in a bad mood

My concern about the extended mag release lever is that if you have a sling on your rifle and have your rifle on your shoulder, and the lever hits your belt bag or other item, it might release the mag - and you wouldnt necessarily notice it until you go to use it, and hey, no mag, it fell out somewhere on your walk.

Now, I dont know if thats actually possible, but I have had my mag released on my hmr the same way with the standard release lever, so am cautious of it.

If I was to get a timney, I hope there is a choice not to have that extended lever. Plus I would prefer it to remain looking standard.

Yep, exactly that can happen. I had my son drop a magazine out on a bunny hunt once when he was resting the rifle out the vehicle window. The extended mag release was bumped and it wasn't noticed until he went to pull the trigger a while later. Very frustrating. I replaced the mag release with an after market version but that can be activated with the sling very easily. Its occurred many times. I've been thinking of going back to an original flush release.

Ah, thank you for that, so my concerns are justified. The lever that is on it already does a good job, mag just drops straight out, no fiddly sticking fingers anywhere. From what I can gather, the older rugers were a "flush" lever, newer ones tend to have a longer lever hanging down - I might be wrong.

So has anyone worked on a BX trigger to improve it - I have fitted them on 2 10/22s and they’re a step up but still way short of ideal?

One of my 10/22 has the extended mag release. After about five minutes actually using the rifle I popped home and sawed it off with a hacksaw. Tidied up with a file.

You will lose your magazine.

The BX is definitely OK for a hunting trigger.
The Jard is better but wont fit a trigger grip stock.
Have't used a Timney.
Kidd are amazing, better than most 22 bolt action triggers (that I have tried).

BX - $200
Jard - $350
Timney - $450
Kidd - $525

Cheers for the info and prices, havent heard of a Kidd trigger, but based on the price they might be more for competitive shooting, and a bit over the top for my needs.

Depends at what weight you set them at but incredibly crisp and predictable. They do single and two stage triggers.
