    .22 vs .17

    Morning,

I am a newbie to the whole hunting malarky. I've got my deer/goat gun - a t3 7mm08 (that is yet to be used) and am looking at my rabbit and small game gun.
Living in Dunedin has it's benefits - 30min drive up the peninsula and I'm in rabbittown

Anyway - I'm a left-handed shooter, so my choices are smaller than most. I would prefer a bolt-action so that I can get used to the movements needed so using the big gun is a lot smoother.

My cousin who is my mentor tells me that if I get one small-game gun, make it a .17. What are the benefits of it other than range? The cost difference of the bullets is pretty insane...

    .22 vs. .17. Thoughts?
