    .243.
Dual load for it. Nice cheap $55 for 100 75gr speer tnts for smaller stuff and depending on your twist rate 105gr targex, 108gr eldm or 95gr targex, sst or ballistic tips.

Don't reload then the 95gr deer season, fiocchi 95gr sst, or something with the 95gr ballistic tips like Winchester supreme. All gets you out to 500 yards.

6mmARC would be my pick....soft to shoot, low recoil and pretty quiet suppressed, which will help build confidence in young and new shooters.

223 and 243 are good calibers also.

how likely are you to shoot rabbits often? a 6mm projectile offers your kid a lot more lee way in shot placement

+1 more for the 6ARC, I was .223 through and through until I got a 6ARC. Still love the .223 but out to 300m the ARC is just better (but feels the same to shoot.

243 light recoil, plenty of power and can be extremely accurate. 223 is a lot of fun to shoot and extremely accurate also but lacks the 243 power.

Thanks for the input everyone! 243 seems to be a good option. I hadn’t even considered a 6ARC (hadn’t even heard of them). What hand loads are people running in them?

The ARC uses a 223 length action. So the gun can be shorter and lighter. A lot less power than the 243 of course.

This, I built a 6mm ARC back in 2020 when the cartridge was first announced and for whatever reasons I did heaps of range work with it but apart from 2 fallow I just didnt use it for hunting. I recently threw a thermal on it that It really made sense, dropping fury critters out to 350m + with swfa holdover. A very sweet round.

I'm loading 107s to 2700fps out of a 6mm ARC. The 87s or 85s would be a good all rounder, while 70s at 3100fps would be good enough for rabbits, pussums pigs and fallow.

Suppressed 243 running lighter monos just has to be a great combination super easy to shoot...and other than Zedrex ( what's happening there?) the 243 is normally one of those accurate cartridges that seldom seem to be otherwise.

Suppressed 243 are awesome even with trash .155bc soft point cup core bullets. No recoil get to see your shots even with ultra light rifles. Kills well far better than my 1-8 223 not even a comparable thing just a mini 270 without the recoil
