I've gone through a few .223s over the years.

    Savage 11
    Tikka T3 Varmint
    Miroku M-Bolt
    Sako 75
    Schmeisser AR15 16" barrel
    Mixed build AR15 11.5" barrel (actually 5.56mm)
    Mixed build AR15 20" barrel (5.56mm)

Still have the Sako, Schmeisser AR and 20" AR.
So that's 3 in the safe at the mo.
    Welcome to Sako club.

@Been_Upto do try an AR15 if you get a chance. Be warned they are addictive.

I would also say Savage are not a bad option for a bolt gun.

If you like your tikka, then buy another one in 223, and set the trigger at the same pull weight, so the muscle memory is the same from one to the other.

im one of those guys that like the old school cals I know 223s are accurate but the 222 held bench rest records for possibly decades I think that's what it was originally desighned for but I may be wrong mines a 788 Remington and a tack driver its the smallest caliber allowed on doc land ive shot deer and goats and one stoat with it

Your advice from my first centrefire post is exactly why im buying a .223, I think you maybe right mate may have to go with another tikka. Was just asking the forum bros what they had experienced in different brands. Cheers bro

Stick to a bolt action man

Budget in a suppressor as they are quite nasty with out one

Cheap factory ammo and great for reading wind drift.

I have a weatherby 223 heavy barrel shoot great and nice lite trigger after a bit of work.

There are lots of options out there decide what you want it for. Heavy barrel is great for longer strings but not so nice to carry around

got a zastava .223 and love it to bits....will go sub inch all day every day with pretty much any ammo Ive chucked at it....if you arent going to stretch the barrel you dont NEED a fast twist or heavy projectiles.......to my mind if you are going to run 80 grn projectiles you might as well use a .243 win...... BUTS THATS JUST ME.
55grn plenty heavy enough,64 will work ok. for deer I use 50 grn ttsx and sure cant complain about how they work...if I think longer shot is on the cards I take the big gun....keep the .223 for what it excells at....hares rabbits wallabies goats fallow and the occasional red or pig and you wont go far wrong...you just got to pick your shot if something big comes along. they are a lot of fun to use ,cheap to feed and very satisfying to turn bunnies etc into red mist with.

re the trebly......I PERSONALLY BELIEVE some of the reason they were held in higher reguard than the .223 back in the day is they had better/softer projectiles..the .223 was fed harder 55grn jobbies the trebly mostly 50 grn...for that reason Ive kept my .223 fed on 50-52grn loads at around the 3000fps mark since day one and never seen need to change...they work and work well.

If you do get a 223, then you will have the 3 commonest calibers in NZ. You can walk into any gunshop and get 22, 223, and 308 without any trouble, there should be be tons on the shelf.( Unless the great ammo panic that gripped the US returns). That's an upside.
