Like others have said they can be a bit rough around the edges but they bloody shoot well. Well mine does anyway with Winchester subs.

I Have Sexdaily. I mean Dyslexia! Fcuk!
Funny thing is I've done 8-10 of these little modded sharpshooters for myself over the years - and the whole lot have disappeared!! My ones!! Not really done for other people, but they'll just ask or I'll hear of someone setting up new and.... oh oh .. another one gone!!
There is no functional reason to have a 22LR barrel beyond 16". Powder has well burned in 22s by 12-14" depending on loads - someone might have data on this.
I keep some longer barrels - for aesthetic reasons with some models, to retain classic models intact, or maintain unmodified $$ value of a more expensive make. But for hunters/workers - they will all be trimmed to 16". The chop and recrown seems overall to improve accuracy a fraction - likely due to better crowning. Advantage with 16" hunters is lightness and manoevrability - just so easy to handle in and out of truck/quad etc when short carbine length.
JW15 is modelled on the Brno model 1. It benefits from polishing work etc - QC work that should have been done in the factory. Seems to bring out that Brno DNA. Cheap wee rifles but often with surprisingly good barrels. Of 15 or so bench tested only one could not shoot sub 1" groups at 50m - a crappy Polytech version. Of the modded ones almost all under 0.7", and most sub 0.5" at best. That's good. Gadgetman's little JW shoots 0.3" groups at 50m![]()

@mudgripz from my memory you are correct. 16" barrel for a 22rf was the magic number.
There was some data posted here after I made a comment about a very shortened (legal I may add) and silenced 22wmr.
The figures suggested that mostly among the rimfires it wasn't as massive a velocity drop even back to 12"
Re-JW15, if the exit-hole is dead-center in the barrel, it should be fine(where the projectile exits).Worth checking, though I've only seen one that wasnt. Mine is more accurate than any 10/22 I've ever seen. After a bit of polishing of bolt and receiver, or a lot of use, they get quite smooth. (DONT use a dremel). Check that the mag/mags feed smoothly, my experience is, they either do or dont. Mine is sensitive to the action-screw tightness, dont know about others. I rate them as the best bang for your buck, .22-wise, and there are Vids out there, if you want to play/improve them a bit yourself
Throw away the mags and use CZ 452 10-shot mags. no jams then.
Mine has about 8,000s rounds through it. Smooth and cheap.
I've polished the bolt, worked the trigger, smoothed the feed ramp and it works well.
I found I had extract issues at about 5000 rds and it turned out it that all it needed was a new spring on the bolt for the extractor and ejector. Solved!
timattalon - what's the deal on those Nikko scopes you mention - Mountmaster and Airking etc. I like the Nikkos - good reliable little units and ideal for the 22.
What scopes have you got and what are they worth?
What's Gary up to - is he back to gunsmithing out at Amberley??
Smiffy - here's a ballistics chart relating velocity to barrel length on 22s. You can get away with 10" - lose a bit - but yes 16" seems optimal. No gain from extra barrel length in couple of charts I've just seen:
https://www.google.com/search?q=22lr...Zu0idzi5iou2M:
That matches our experience. We tend to shoot out to 110m max with the 22LR (HV) and the shorter 16" barrels certainly do the business hard out to there.

Hi @mudgripz I dont have much left to be honest. The Nikko Mount asters with the AO were about $150 and the Airking a bit more. (Essentially an AO Gold crown for airguns) Not entirely sure if they ares till bringing Nikko in it has been so long since I had anything to do with them. I have a couple 4x32 (Some AO some not) and a couple others but the scopes I have left are mostly Nighteaters , Arctic Fox or Diamonds / Target masters . While I probably have something here to suit most tasks, I dont really have much in options. Always keen to help find new homes for them.
Gary is well. I think he is still rebuilding mills, lathes etc for the workshop, but you know Gary. It takes just as long as it takes to get it done.
I extended the wooden one I had, and made a complete stock (and new trigger) for the other one

Na just the one, It didnt take that long, it was just an experiment really with some bits of wood left over from fixing a window. It is basically glued together from two pieces (around the receiver), doing it like that means you can inlet the mag well and trigger on each side and then glue it together. The cutouts around the receiver are (were) really rough but it all gets filled up with epoxy anyway. I was going to make a more traditional style one as well, problem is I have only got Rimu and have not discovered a cheap source of more appropriate wood, this stock has a couple of layers of fibre glass betheen each joint to try and stop it splitting.
A good quality plywood may also be ok for a 22lr, itis easy to cut away layers with a craft knife and chisel

Had my JW15 some 45yrs,chopped to 14 inchs, niko stirling 3x9 on top.Great liitle shooter to 100yds with 22subs.Many bricks of ammo have been thru it.Shot a few possums and head shot a few roos with it.
The easiest bedding / inleting a stock that I have seen was a very simple plan. He got the original wooden stock and planed it down on the sides and base until it was square without touching the top. Then he inletted his new piece of wood for the stock to fit this nice square profiled piece of wood and glued the original inlet into his new stock. technically it is still "factory bedded" into an aftermarket (read home made) stock.......He had to do something as the original stock had been snapped and the only part that was any good was the piece around the action..
mine hates CCI and loves winchester 42grn power points...still std length and its quiet enough with subs that I got rid of the 2nd one I had that was suppressed...the longer mag feeds better than the short one...both are legal.
