Thread: 303 Double Rifle and what whiskey ?

Whiskey is Irish. Whisky is Scots. Old Pulteney is one of those whiskies that you either like or hate. If your mate likes a lot of peat, go for an Islay single malt, such as Laphraoig, Ardbeg, etc. If he likes something a wee bit softer, Glenmorangie from the Speyside might be a good choice. If he likes a bit of heat, Bunnahabhain is an option, especially the 12 year old small cask distilled bottling with the red label, which is under $100. The Tamdhu batch strength No. 5 is a very nice Speyside whisky.
Many recent special editions have been disappointing because distillers have gone a bit crazy with a variety of finishing casks. Avoid MacAllan because a previous owner sold off all the good old casks to Japan about 15-20 years ago and it will be 15-20 years from now before they are expected to have any whisky worth buying, especially at the prices they charge. Glenallachie has taken that market.

Do your research, as others have suggested, find out what style he prefers and … avoid the novelty expressions. Best of luck with acquiring that double.

One thing I have learnt lately is it takes time for these guys to feel confident that you are the right guy to continue the legacy of these rifles

I've been very lucky lately to track down and but some good items
So I thought I would approach the 303 double properly and respectfully
Which means not spilling the beans until it's sorted
Which might take a number of months yet

Seriously though Jameson's is ok.
I like Chivas regal. Had a bottle of Dimple (one of the old locals favourites) for my 40th but at the time always got the whiskey burps from it and wasnt a fan.

I just want to see pics of the double rifle. I remember reading about a cursed .303 written by Capstick.

+1 for a good Caol Ila.
Looks clear but its got just a little salt and a little smoke.
genuine whiskys with style.

Also +1 for the Allardice but I havent been able to get one for a while.
Great body and lovely colour. No smoke and very little salt but a honey like quality. If anyone knows where some is available please send me a quiet PM.

Cant go wrong with aberlour for the price its great. Carduh is nice and balveneie double wood is a grand dram
