    .308 Options - Help needed

I have currently a Remington S/S .308 which has been passed down to me. It is in very good order and had little use. With the late owner's wife's permission, I am going to modify it somewhat. I have already decided it's getting the chop and suppressed. The questions I have or would like some advice around is more specific to reloading and bullets .

1 . Never really having reloaded for a 30 cal what are some of the regular deer killer's preferred bullets of choice ?

    2. Are there bullets to avoid? What is the general go to load to start with? If it was a 7mm I know the answers inside out. This is new territory .

    3. What is the best ADI powder for .308 ?

Note - This is not going to be a stretch the legs type of rifle so just after maximum killing power.

    Thanks in advance N

Bullet itself will come in a black plastic box, will be either 130grn HP or 150grn spbt..both very soft n violent killers. I believe 2206 is still like unicorn turdsbut is ideal 2208 other option. Winchester 748 is super easy to use and pretty much made for that job. I've already suggested you try some soft heavy projectiles before....either option work...

    Shorten it to 16". AR2208, 168 ELD-M.

I use the 155g ELD m behind 43g 2206H. 2690fps out of an 18in 308. The 165g TGK work well with 2206H. I just couldn't seat long enough, mag restrictions.

    Nosler 150g Ballistic Tip

    ADI 2208

    Fed 210 primer

    2840fps is the sweet spot

    2710fps if 15-16 inch barrel

The BT has a nice solid copper boat tail that ensures full penetration on double lung/chest shots on reds

    18in, 168 ELDMS or 168 NBTs with 2208. That’s my go to for 308

20 inch Tikka, using 2206 H at 43.5 grs gives me 2740 fps with 165 gr SST. This load is ok in my rifle but I consider it right up there so approach it with caution, maybe go 2 grs lower and work up to be on the safe side, REM 700 are strong rifle so should be ok at higher charge.

bullets: any. hornady, speer, sierra, nosler...

2208 is great powder, but for 16" length I would go with something faster. 8208 or 2219 for example.

Short range I am a fan of monolithic. Have used 130gr ttsx for a long time and they work well at bush ranges. 2206h is your powder for lighter weights.
Longer range I don't think you can go past the 168 eldm....either 2206h or 2208 will work here.
