130gr ttsx has great reviews. Theres a #10 minute talk episode about it:

Monos go great, great weight retention so you can cut right around the bullet cavity and minimise meat loss with minimal risk of ingesting random metals. Ive loaded up some for my 300wsm. Sounds like they should kill fine out to about 400yards which is a good sensible distance anyways.

150 interlock and 47 grains of 2208. Gets me 2840 fps from a 22 inch barrel. Will do everything that can be asked of a .308.

I cant speak to a short barrel because I dont go there.

44Gr 2208 behind a 165NBT goes good for me running the stock 22" barrel with DPT suppressor

47gr 2208 behind a 150NBT @ 2840 from a 20" barrel and when i do my part its a ragged hole. Shot deer from 10~ out to 400m+ . Used to use 168eldms but the noslers shot way better and every load was well under MOA.

As you can see from the answers, pretty much anything will work which is the strength of the .308 Winchester, it is incredibly versatile.

FWIW any of the common hunting bullets in ~165 grain will work well out of a 16-18 inch barrel. AR2208, ~2,600 ft./sec, 200m zero. Great bush and open scrubby country setup.

I found eldms can be quite "picky" with regards to seating depth and powder charge. Noslers are often mentioned as a more forgiving alternative.

Sierra TMKs (and TGKs) tend to be very forgiving too and usually shoot sub-moa for me regaedless of what I do with them reloading wise. Just fyi if you ever get tired of shooting noslers :-)

i Agree with Flyblown. I found 308 very forgiving / versatile cartridge.
cant go past a 150gr soft point for <250m shooting. They didnt suddenly stop killing things when fancy high BC bullets came out

Looking back over these comments, I do wonder why anyone ever developed another cartridge. This one simply does the lot

    While extremely versatile.
I love to shoot lighter bullets in smaller calibres with less drop and wind drift
Maybe if we also has Moose and Bears in NZ it would swing back in favour to a 308,
