Anyone else run a light bulb / heater in their safe?

Just managed to locate some highly inefficient 200 watt light bulbs in Mitre 10 - warms up the insides of the safe to help keep the moisture out, especially in the wetter months...

Or it that just overkill..? Oh, and the few bags of silica gel in there too..

You may be interested in the 125gram desiccants we use at work??
We put them in export containers. Soak up moisture pretty good.

A 200W incandescent would seem a tad of overkill unless you had a very large safe in a drafty room..

A 40w towel rail is cheaper to buy. I used a 40w bulb in my pump box outside during the frosty months. Personally I'm not keen on desiccants. Lose one in a corner and if it becomes sodden u have a mess. My 5c worth

Fair comment, though I have an ex ATM safe, lengthened, complete with random holes (not by choice) for some heat to escape, in the draughty garage...

I run a 40 or 60 watt in my safe during winter.
Velocity is thrilling, but diameter does the real killing.

I run a 25 or 40w incandescent bulb in the current safe, got one of those wardrobe heater tube thingies for the new safe I'm building.
I've seen guys running strip LEDs in their safes, not for any attempt at heat but just so they can see where everything is

Musicians have a similar problem, I've heard of people running a bulb inside a piano before - all those steel strings and whatnot would want to rust if they could
