    Auckland clubs and shooting disciplines.

So I've just recently moved to Auckland and picked up some work, and now thinking that it would be a good time to finally go fo either my E or B as I've had to sell out of my F-class to pay for moving costs and life bills in general.

Now that I've settled down I want to get back in to a shooting sport to chew up my hobby time without blowing the bank like my last did. Just by your guys experience, would you say pistol shooting or owning an MSSA is cheaper for general costs and ammo for competition/range use along with hunting goats and other pests on private farms etc for MSSA.

Also how are the auckland clubs in regards to coming in at your own leisure for practice and are there any clubs that offer any kind of run and gun range that you shoot around corners or out of the back of vehicles etc, or is that more of an American thing with their relaxed laws?

Also is E endorsement easier to obtain and upkeep as opposed to the hoops and strings of mandatory club event attendance with B as well as only being able to use pistols are approved locations. I've seen alot of debate about people putting hunting on their MSSA reasons, but if I get accepted for competition use and someone for some reason calls the police about my "black rifle" in the bush, will I be hung out to dry?

    Cheers
    Macca

Come to some ASRA shoots and have a play. Can lend you a rifle too if you need, it's a hoot. Don't know much about the B thing sorry, other than I'm keen to get stuck in too. Whereabouts in Akl have you ended up?

    It's really apples and oranges.

Pistols can only be used at approved ranges. MSSAs can be used anywhere you can lawfully fire a firearm.

There is no requirement to be a member of any club or any minimum number of shoots/attendences required for an E endorsement. You technically don't require a reason, but the Police insist on one. Put everything that you ever plan on doing with it; plinking, competition, hunting, etc.

ASRA has very limited shooting dates. I would recommend Waiuku Pistol Club, they have a 100M range and you can use it 5 days a week.

Not much barricade shooting is going to happen, unless you get into 3 Gun.

Shooting out of vehicles. ...not likely. Buy yourself a property and you can do what you want though.

Auckland NZDA also has MSSA Days. You are welcome to shoot at the North Auckland NZDA also but they get funny about rapid fire

Some IPSC stages involve shooting out of and around vehicles.

    B vs E

The issue with "B" is the 12 shoots a year BS. Im currently thinking of not renewing my "B" as this year with a broken shoulder and work commitments I have not made many shoots and will struggle to meet the requirements. You dont have that trouble with "E".
But if your in Papakura and want to shoot pistols then Auckland Pistol Club is close by in Brookby and they shoot IPSC which is running and barricades etc-heaps of fun.

So I guess new zealand has no "tactical carbine" courses that train you in the general use of an AR15 and give you some in depth use of your own rifle?

Waiuku Pistol Club. Whiriwhiri Rd, Waiuku.

Closed Mon/Tues, and public holidays, shooting forbidden.

    Other days 1000- 1600.

The club stalwarts have a maintenance day on Thursdays, and it's a good time to introduce yourself or failing that, there's a wee competition each Saturday morning starting at 1000.

5 ranges in total, pistol, shotgun, centerfire and rimfire catered for.

    PM me if you wish

Someone on here, can't remember who, was posting about the practical rifle course. I'd rather spend a grand on ammo and a couple of Frank Proctor DVDs.

Yeah a grand is just silly. $500 would have better uptake.

    Auckland Pistol Club.
    Auckland Pistol Club

Can only shoot Wednesday afternoon, all day Saturday, Sunday. Pistols only. It gets busy with various sections shooting which block book out certain ranges. Pistol carbine is allowed but only certain makes & models, no 9mm AR. Limited options for joining up now, there's only 2 x intakes a year for new members. Keeping 12 shoots a year is piss easy, if you shoot in any comps there's a couple of days a year straight up.

E cat - no restrictions on use attatched to your license. Just remember cops get nervous seeing a tooled up AR out and about.

There's Waiuku Pistol Club, range open Wed-> Sunday 10am - 3pm, for pistol, rifle range, shotgun. Expensive to join.
    Waiuku Pistol Club

Numerous rumours of them having consent issues in the future.

If you're super keen to do a tactical course, travel to the US. I did a 2 day shoot in Florida in 2013 and it was money well spent - huge fun factor

Most legitimate schools don't accept non-US citizens. This is due to ITAR restrictions, for most schools it's just not worth the hassle.

All foriegn students are required to obtain State Department approval for any tactical training. To get approval you need to submit a DSP-83 and pay a $250USD fee.

Some places still do accept students without approval, but both student and trainer run the risk of Federal prosecution.

Training courses in Europe or South Africa don't have this issue.
