I always thought if you really want a fluted barrel, just buy a fluted barrel, or a gun with a fluted barrel. The cost of fluting an existing barrel is definitely not worth what you are getting out of it plus it may upset the heat treatment and/or stress levels and/or original finish.
Yes, cherish that bull barrel if that is what you start out with, except you could shorten it to lose some weight without much disadvantage.
