I ended up grabbing a set of Leupold Acadia 10x42s from yanky-land via the internet from jays outdoors (ebay). They came yesterday - took about 2 weeks to get here. Picture very bright and clear, peripherals like strap and covers are fairly ho hum but for that price WGAS. The only set me back $220 plus $18 postage (usd). They work fine using glasses too. Not too heavy either. Better than some of the cheaper Steiner / Burris models i've looked through and those were double the price i paid.
If i bust or lose these I'm not going to cry. If i get 2 years out of them then the rest is icing on the cake - no crying to leupold that their cheapo model broke lol but there is a lifetime warranty on parts and workmanship. Like i could be bothered sending these to the states at my cost.

Nah that's their " Guarantee ". I guess if you sneeze on the gold models you can have a new one free. The Gold guarantee on the pricey models is transferable when the limited lifetime warranty only covers the original owner....So they say.
