Marlin semis (Model 60 etc) have a much better reputation for accuracy than 10/22s.
+1
Or the 795 if you want to suppress it or have a drop out mag. Similar accuracy to the Thompson Centre R55 by the sounds of it, mine is around 0.5" at 50m (not with me operating it, but a target shooter) and I've seen a few better. Comes with the usual American anti-law-suit trigger, but they are easy enough to fix with a floppy shutter spring and a grub screw. The Marlin outsells the Ruger world wide by 3:2. Mags are easy enough to get but more expensive and not as easy as the Ruger. Takes apart similar to the Ruger and has last shot hold open. Not so much bling available, but it doesn't need a lot to make it shoot, Boyd's make stocks.
The thing about the 10-22 is that there are a shizzit load of after market parts and this means there is virtually no limit to how far you can go with improving them. Mine will shoot 1/2 MOA off bags with Eley Tenex etc but the only original parts remaining are the receiver and the bolt (which has been squared to the barrel). MacMillan STC stock, Volquartzen THM Tension barrel and cantilever mount, Jewell trigger.
If I had to do it again, I would probably just buy a complete Volquartzen or similar unit as I think these other manufacturers have taken the 10-22 concept much further now, and offer better receivers and barrel fit.
Ray.
I dunno how accurate those marlins are but my 1022 is pritty bloody good(30mm at 30m with win subbies), light, great flush fitting mag. replacement mags are cheep, weaver and rimfire rail on the recever. all topped off with the worst trigger ruger could find :D
too easy to go passed really. just funny that I baught it new for cheeper than people ask for them second hand on trademe.
Had a look at one of these the other day.
Deadeye Dicks - Rimfire Rifle
thats pretty cool. Is it E cat?
The new manufacture 10/22's shoot alright
Had a marlin 70 and 795 through the years. Both shot better than the rugers I have used.
Get a 2nd hand Volquartsen , and call it DONE , thats what I did , they have a SS or Aluminium receiver , I wanted the SS version ( steel ) .
Later Chris
Marlin 795 if you want a gun that doesn't need money to be spent on it, get a 10/22 if you love buying add on parts to make it shoot as well as the Marlin 795. Ican't think of anything the Ruger does better than the Marlin apart from suck up money on add on parts.
My 2c
Mudgripz did a test on a range of rifles and the Marlin semis (60/795's) beat a lot of the bolt actions. Think he was averaging 0.59" with my 795 and 0.49" with his 60 at 50m, often grouping well below. This from a gun that was basically off the shelf but a home lightened trigger at basically no cost. I don't see the point in buying a rifle then spending 2-3 times it's original cost to make it do what it should in the first place. I spent ages on Rimfirecentral reading reviews and the majority of those that had a Ruger and a Marlin in the cabinet would grab the Marlin for a hunt or target shoot, but grab the Ruger for fun/plinking/blinging.
Hey Mate I need to know what you did to sort your trigger. I just put up with it but my son hates it. I was going to respring and use bedding compound to shorten up some tolerences. Keen to hear how you sorted yours.
It is friggin accurate with the factory trigger, lookng forward to see what it can do with an improved one.

I only did the trigger return spring on mine. When it comes back I'll put a grub screw in to take out the initial movement that you'll see further down the page. Quick, easy, inexpensive.

Thanks heaps for that Gadgetman.
Marlin 795 22LR Semi Blued Synthetic WITH 4X32 Scope & Rings - Marlin, 22lr, Semi Auto, Synthetic, Special, ... - Serious Shooters
Not a bad deal. Add a Boyd's stock and do a trigger job and you will have a nice rifle. Tempted myself.
any opinions on magtechs? been looking at 22s for a while purely for some rabbit control, after something that cycles subs while suppressed and shoots minute of rabbit.
I got the 795 for my boy. Just ordered a boyd stock and it has been sent at including postage @ $120US. Got Tuiman to make a carbon sleeved supp a while ago and it cycles subs fine and considering the trigger, it is bloody accurate.
Great value wee shooter for the money. The only draw back is the mag can get in the way in some situations.
I had one a while ago . Whilst being shit it was incedibly light very accurate and cycled everthing i ever chucked in it . It was rubbishy and plasticy thou and rusted at the thought of water

A mate had one and it shot like 5" groups at 50m no matter what we tried
I had a Magtech for 2 hrs. Took it back on way hm from the range.
Piece of shit.
Anyone tried the Savage semis? Model 64 I think, saw one on TM a while back. I rate their bolt actions but never tried the semi - don't think it had the accutrigger though which is a let down.
i have a 10/22 with boyd barracuda stock feels great shoots like junk. have you considered a new cz semi ? they look smart, haven't read the review yet

those cz's are a tad expensive tho
My 10/22. That's the best .22 semi-auto.

The flush fitting Ruger mag is good, though I gather it has one slight flaw in that it tends to gunk up a fair bit in the semis. This tends to only require cleaning out though. Yes the Marlin mag does stick out but I can live with that as it admirably fulfils it's main task of putting the lead in the required spot accurately, and for a tight wad like me cheaply. The next step up accuracy wise is 3-5 times the price.
Cheers boy'n'girls some food for thought
I have a krico... Model unknown I can only assume it is about 30-40 years old. Has a five shot mag and creepingdeathnis sending me a ten shot one. This thing shoots awesome and I gave my 10/22 to dad for controlling the vege garden. A good buy at $200 on trademe
My magtech is pretty fun, only problems I ever had was shooting Remington through it, It was good enough to pop off rabbits with a head shot a 50m. I like it cause its short and light.
I have a Stirling M20P, one of the 10% that are actually good. Had it over ten years, shoots anything you put in it with nice tight groupings. I had to turn up a bolt handle extension as the standard one is tiny, and magazines are ridiculously expensive.
Got 3 semis, had 4, sold the brno zkm581, id had for 20 years and bought a Ruger 10/22, as a knock around ride on the bike all the time rifle.
Still love my unique best for rabbiting, she can shoot 1/2 in at 50 yds off a rest, but the gevarm is so much fun, open bolt, fixed firing pin, and take down action so well thought out.
I love guns that were machined out of blocks of real steel.
No-one has mentioned the Remington 597? I'd recommend them highly. Mine's a great shooter, cycles cleanly (now that I've worked out to only feed it CCI subs) and as accurate as it needs to be. It'll cycle anything hi velocity, only picky on subsonic. The scope it came with (Remington branded) was utter shite, but once that was changed, I've never had to adjust for zero, nor do I see any change in POI between subs through the suppressor or hi velocity without.
Remmy 597 a bit of a problem child though. Can be good or can be a pain in the arse due to cycling/feeding issues. Talking with importer for Remmy/Marlin a while back and that's the model that gives them issues. However if you've got a good one - hang onto it!
Got a couple of Rugers a wood stainless + Syn stainless take down.
Both really good guns. Done a few mods to both.
I like this one though its a bit different. Real good fun to shoot as well ..

G22 Spent lots time sorting out all the issues that they come with at no extra charge.. Its mint now .. Crap pic but you get the gist ...
That looks like it has a thumping great front sight in the middle of the scope view Happy.
Its got an interesting scope mount that you can use the open sights with under the scope. Hard to see but the mount is see through in the middle.
Handy for those too close shots right beside the ute ... @gadgetman
