It’s the gas vent hole if something goes wrong IIRC. My R93 has been wet as a shag and no dramas. Leave a round chambered will stop water getting in, the safety of the Blaser is pretty much bulletproof Obviously safety first though.
    R93 and WillB like this.
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

*leave a fired case in the chamber might be a better option

That's generally why I always hunt alone. People are simply ignorant as to how the system works. It is literally designed to be carried like a loaded semi shotgun only with a better safety mech.
I always have a round chambered when hunting. It is safer, quieter and faster than a turn bolt or any other action I can think of.

Might be a few others, like Merkel? Doesn't that have a cock/uncock rather than a safety? I do like that feature of the Blaser action very much. No tension in the firing pin spring = no way it can really go off. That I can think of anyway.
