If you look at the SDSs most carbon cleaners include kerosene, as does hoppes 9.

yep....and I've tested corrosion x myself and it really does work.
I cannot believe that WD 40 is still used by people for firearms. it just becomes a gum that jambs things up.
i typically just leave hoppes (Din Collings version in the tin) for short term storage and corrosion x for long term.

I think the Toluene and Nitro Benzine were take out quite a while back due to some sort of health concerns. I used to store my firearms long term with Hoppes in the barrel as a protectant. The Hoppes I but now seems to dry out and disappear.

A few more. I reckon ATF or 30w oil or Diesel + petrol would do a good job. Lol

IIRC both Toluene and Benzene are carcinogenic.

    And for those interested:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammonia_solution

Common household bleach is weak 4% ammonium hydroxide solution.

Nah - definitely in household cleaners, but bleach is sodium hypochlorite.

I wouldn't doesn't strike me as a product that would be very good at rust prevention (even though it says so on the label) remember NZ climate is extremely hard on firearms
Unlike where the product is made/tested

If you're trying to save money on cleaning products
You probably have something lying around, new clean car engine oil, for example, is great or WD-40, ok at a pinch
If you're going to buy gun oil, the best is found, which is readily available, is eezox

See zero mention of corrosion x
It's a product I've never used so I can't comment on its effectiveness

Read the post immediately before yours. Your comment reads as opinion on Corrosion X.

I agree that Eliminator is not a suitable corrosion protectant. I flush it out with isoprop after I've done with Eliminator/Autosol.

I flush using Brakleen. Used to use meths in days of old. Also blasts my brushes clean. Buy Brakleen when it's on special in a 6 pack :-)

Just got some Helmar H8000 to try. Gets good reports on Oz F Class Forum (maybe because it is made in Oz).

    Oh right OK
Yeah nah never used the stuff so definitely not commenting on that
Best I've found is ether Lucas's CLP great stuff but hard to get or eezox

I actually don't use ether... I use AGIP domus
Which is awesome but discontinued but a good mate has a 25ltr drum of it and sells it to me by the 500ml bottle which lasts years as a few drops is all you need to do both inside and out of a firearm
