So this rifle was the second of a pair given to me by a mate before he passed away from cancer (former member here Kamel). The other rifle was also Myra-themed, being the Brno Mod2 with the .20 cal extruder barrel described here: https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co....truder-113990/
The .250 Myra is nothing more than a .222 Rem case necked up to .25 cal. Apparently back in the day when roo shooters had shot out their Sako .222 barrels a cheap option was to replace with take off Sako L46 .25-20 barrels, or have the shot out .222 rebored and rifled to .25 cal.
Around the same time the .25-222 was also developed in the USA as the 25 Copperhead.
Sprinter Arms - a barrel maker here in Aus - no longer rebore barrels but do have the reamer. Kamel's .250 Myra build started when he picked up some .250 Myra head stamped brass through one of the forums here, and then the donor Brno 601 chambered in .222. He managed to get it put together, do some load development and blood it before he passed away.
One of Kamel's photos, being a line up of cartridges based on the .222 Rem case that he had rifles chambered for, being .250 Myra, .222 Rem, .20-222 and .17-222.
Here's a photo of the two Myra-themed Brno's when they first turned up at my place:
The Brno 601 originally had a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 on it sitting in Hillver stud type rings on a Hillver bridge mount - strong set-up, but the scope sat very high. I found a lower set of Hillver dovetail rings that gave the lowest possible fit without snagging the scope ocular on the bolt handle.
Picked up a beautiful old Swarovski Habicht Nova 6x42 that fits and suits the rifle really well; unfortunately the seller misrepresented the reticle, and the extremely fine straight crosshair is almost useless for the proposed use I have in mind for this rifle.
Anyway, I managed to jump on a second hand Kahles CT 3-9x42 which is not a bad plan B.
I have been developing up loads using AR2207 with a range of projectiles, including:
- 60gn Little FBHP
- 70gn Little FBHP
- 70gn Sierra Blitzking (Kamel's load)
- 75gn Hornady FBHP
- 75gn Hornady v-max
- 85gn Nosler Ballistic tip
- 87gn Speer SP
- 87gn Bertram SP
- 87gn Sierra SP
All but the 87gn Speer and Bertram offerings provide good hunting accuracy. He is a pick of the 87gn SPs - from memory left to right is Sierra, Bertram, Speer:
