    Browning AB3

Has anybody had any experience with these rifles?

Have been offered one for (almost) free and it is barely used by a family friend who has no use for it nor the want to list on tardme or the likes.

I understand that this is the "budget" Browning but are they worth a try?

The new blued one or is it an older ss one? Hardly say budget if it is the older stainless one and would have one over an x bolt any day

Nah it's one of the newer blue and synthetic jobs you see around for $7-800 new, I think the stainless was only the old A-bolt or maybe the A-bolt 2. But I can get it for a song, although if they are rubbish I will probably keep stashing change and go down the Tikka T3 or Sauer 100 route.

Really just after a hack that is cheaper and gives a wee bit more legs than the 7.62x39.

If you're getting it for a 'steal', snap it up mate.
Was given a Stirling M1400 22LR by the BIL.
Would I sell it? Probably. Would I get a few $ for it? Probably not.
Will I keep it? Guess so.

Yeah I'm thinking at worst it will be a good rifle for the missus to start shooting (never shot anything other than. 22) as this is a .243. And if it goes alright might be another toy for me also.

Browning make the ab3 in a few models the composite stalker, with a 22inch barrel and a micro which has a 20 inch barrel and a shorter length of pull,I'm guessing the one you've been offered is the composite, check out Brownings website it will give you all the info

But in saying that, they ain't no sako,I've taken mine through some nasty kaweka srcub definitely not the sort of places I'd want to take a more expensive rifle and still it handled the knocks and stayed accurate when it counted

Grab it, it'e essentially an Abolt action and the rest is built to cheaper standard as many manufacturers are/where doing.
You can fix the rest if you want , just don't go planning to rebarel any time soon.
