[QUOTE=Dicko;1754459]Certainly in a .17 REM it’s not uncommon with the std 25 gn hps. In the air prior to hitting the target. Near 4000 fps though.
Not with post 2011 made 140's projectiles though?

This is the very reason to dual load.... Or at least have half dozen either milder loads or Barnes loads for the spook n shoot type up close shots,or indeed finishers. It's not difficult or rocket science to do.

never had a blow up, but had a heap of pencilling with 143 eldx mainly behind the shoulder.they are ok hitting bone, now I have changed to eldm and won't go back.they don't pencil they seem to tennis ball there way thru.
Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.
The 162gn amax used to blow up on me all the time. I think because they were doing 3300 fps they acted more like an RPG anyway. They’d penetrate blow up and cause huge damage and holes. Especially to little sika deer. I liked em.
Well for some, it definitely was. I remember reading about it, but couldn't remember the details, so I had to look it up. It was the inspiration for John Nosler to invert the partition. He was using normal bullets. 180gr from a 300 Holland and Holland, and the thick mud on a bull moose's hide managed to stop several well-placed shots until they finally got it. Not the same as we are talking about, but still.....
I have recently been using Maker 110gn BLK projectiles in my 308win for close range stuff. They definitely blow apart, but it's after they get inside the animal.
I shot a small pig recently. It was quartering away and I aimed just in front of the hip. It ran off and the first thing I came across was this lying on the ground about 15m from where the pig was hit. The pig disappeared into a tunnel in the blackberry so I never did recover the rest of it.
