Thread: Custom desert tech SRS barrel in NZ

May I ask, is there any gunsmith in New Zealand have tools (and experience) to make custom barrel for desert tech srs?

Yup. To install the barrel extension they also need a barrel extension wrench.. Which costs another $95 USD.

That's why I would like to ask if there is any gunsmith have those tools in hands already. Otherwise I gotta import the barrel from somwhere else.

I know Robbie at Gunworks has done some. Scott at SSRNZ has also done one but I think the customer supplied the tools.

@eamars, have you bothered phoning anyone and just asking ?

the list of likely gunsmiths in nz must be pretty small:

gunworks, maisey, mitch max, scott trail, hardy

bet if you phone those 5 you will have an answer or they will know who to ring...

Hardy did a custom barrel for my switch barrel rifle which also uses a barrel extension setup. (I supplied a barrel extension for them to use)
Im not familiar with how the desert tech barrels attach, but assuming they use a barrel extension type arrangement, and you have one you can use for your re barrel - then id think most competent gunsmiths could do it. (if they were willing to take it on is another question though)
When I was sorting it out I spoke with Hardys and True Flight who were both willing to take on the job - so id start there.

Good to hear that! I haven't decide which caliber to go yet but planning to get a heavy contour barrel with short action cartridge. I'll contact you as soon as the decision is made.

Not wanting to dredge up an old topic but we have taken over distribution of Desert Tech for New Zealand and have barrel extensions in stock - If we can assist in any way please dont hesitate to ask.
