This is my Dinosaur. The original 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser. Yes, designed by Mauser about 130 years ago and still dong the business.
The 6.5x55 is possible the finest calibre ever invented and is the only calibre needed for all New Zealand big game hunting.
This particular rifle is Schultz and Larsen, possibly the finest rifle ever built. Note the fine hand checkered walnut stock and rose bud tip, beautiful! The thing I like about the S&L is the ability to change the barrel at any modern calibre you like, this is because the breech is inside the barrel, not in the receiver. Which means I could up-date to something modern like, .303 or 30-06.
That shiny piece to steel hanging out of it is call the BOLT. It probably has at least 50% more steel in it than a Tikka T3 bolt, because that bolt is designed to take any of the magnum calibres.
This will crack you up, this is a PUSH FEED ACTION! This is the rifle on which I base my safety concerns after having changed from my Alpine 30-06 which had a sporterized Mauser 98 action with a full length extractor, giving controlled feed. But I forgive the S&L that short coming because it has a palm swell like a woman's breast. However, I would never lend this push feed rifle to an inexperienced hunter. Photos to come from my phone....
