Thread: DO YOU HAVE A FIREARM WITH SOME INHERENT PROBLEM.

My two Sako Vixens L461's, purchased one in 71 and another in 75 have problem that appears to be common to all this model and I believe the Sako Forrester as well.

After heavy rain or when the rifle is saturated during bad river crossings it always pays to strip the bolt and dry it with rag or toilet paper otherwise it will seriously misfire. I believe the firing pin sets up some sort of hydraulic action owing to fairly tight tolerances inside the bolt.

It only ever happens rarely and the rifle need to be soaking wet for many hours before it is likely to misfire. I can remember at least three times a misfire that had me stripping and drying the firing pin watched by a very suspicious deer.

The above hasn't happened to me for a few years now as I have got cunning and don't hunt in heavy rain and I don't mess with flooded rivers anymore.
