Don't sonic clean your AR15 BCG!

I thought I would have a cunning plan and use the sonic cleaner (complete with 1/2 teaspoon of citric acid) to clean the crud out of my BCG.
As it worked well on my brass.
I now have a 2 toned BCG, ie original black and a faded dark grey, complete with tide mark.

Luckily I only put it on one cycle.

    Fark.
    Maca49 and steven like this.

    Why the citric acid?

Horny are selling an ultrasonic cleaner that fits a complete upper so it cant be all bad? Would be very suspect on using an acid (even a weak one) to clean any kind of ferrous metal

Whack it in your tumbler - might polish back up ok?

Over here a few blokes, including myself are using a mixture 1/2tsp of cream of Tatar and a drop of dish washing liquid(not dishwasher stuff). No need to neutralise the acid and pretty safe. Another thing to try is a yank product called Mpro-7. Very good at cleaning guns and parts. Just spray it on and use an old toothbrush to scrub. Leave on for a few minutes and wipe off and your done!
